Treatex Hardwax Oil – Clear
Treatex Hardwax Oil
Treatex Hardwax Oil protects and enhances the natural beauty of wood.
Treatex is quick drying and easy to maintain but above all provides a hard wearing and attractive finish. It is contains a base of natural sustainable raw materials: jojoba oil, linseed oil, sunflower oil, beeswax, candelilla wax and carnauba wax. Suitable for all types of internal joinery including floors, stairs, doors, furniture and kitchen worktops.
If the surface to be treated is rough or if the previous surface coating is present, sand to smooth bare wood with 80-120 grit sandpaper. Most previously oiled surfaces can be overcoated without sanding. When overcoating a previously oiled surface a trial application is essential. Remove dust, dirt and any tiny contaminants which may lead to uneven absorption of Treatex Hardwax Oil. Make Sure the surface to be treated is thoroughly dry. Stir tins and ensure product is at room temperature before use.
It is recommended that enough product is purchased to complete the project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use.
If you have applied a coat of Treatex Colour Tone or Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural within the last 24 hours then no further preparation is neccessary. Make sure the previous coat is fully dry before overcoating with Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear.
if you are treating oily/dense timbers thin the first coat of Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear by mixing with approximately 10% Treatex Thinner. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply Hreatex Hardwax Oil Clear allowing roughly 30g per sq-metre. Pay attention to end grain (on end grain apply wet on wet until product is no longer absorbed by the wood). Allow to dry – maintaining warmth and ventilation will enable the surface to dry within 3-6 hours. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat or Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear, again allowing roughly 30g per sq-metre. Allow to dry thoroughly overnight before the surface is lightly used. The surface will reach full hardness after a further 24 hours.
If Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear is applied too thickly drying time will be increased. To speed up drying time raise the room temperature and increase airflow by opening doors, windows and using a fan.
Tightly wrap a plastic bag around wet rollers and brushes to stop them drying out between coats. Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned with white spirit.
To protect floors it is recommended that all furniture is fitted with felt pads. Treatex Hardener is available for floors in commercial locations which are subject to high traffic.
